Tired and Jet Lagged, but Excited!

Posted by Dave Mogle on

Greetings to all,

After 18 hours in the air, including a flight path that took us over the Arctic Ocean, we're here. Tired and jet lagged, yes, but really excited about what the Lord has called us to do here. Leighton met us at the airport in Manila at 12:30AM with his big smile. It's so nice to see a friendly, familiar face in a foreign place and culture many thousands of miles from home. The team is great - ready and willing to get going with the English Camp and playground (when it arrives).

On our first day, we went for a tour of Faith Academy with Leighton and Jennie. With 530 students from 20 countries, it really is a significantly international school. Most of the students are children of Christian missionaries and ministry workers. God has called the Helwigs to serve these students through education, while building relationships with the aim of preparing and guiding them to follow God's call on their own lives someday. After the tour we had a wonderful dinner at the Helwig's home with the whole family.

We are staying in a mission guesthouse in the Cuatro community, a very short walk from the charred remains of the recent fire that destroyed the homes of 70 families. The ministry that runs our guesthouse has been coordinating help for these families. Several on our team brought clothing items and school supplies to aid the effort. Churches throughout the area are addressing the need here.

I am writing this update at 4AM and finding that one of the benefits of jet lag is being wide awake and alert in the early hours of the morning on this, our second day. Today we will go to church with Helwigs. We will send more updates later, hopefully with some photos. We've taken pictures, but are having some technical problems in passing them on to you. We will try to remedy that soon.

Please pray for the English Camp which starts tomorrow and that through this work of service we can be ambassadors for Christ and share His gospel through our words and actions. Please also continue to pray that the playground would be released from customs early this week and arrive quickly. The school has all the holes dug and are ready to install. We just need a playground. Thank you very much.
