I can’t believe how fast the week is going here aboard the Boomerang Express! It has been amazing to see the children having fun and learning “It all comes back to Jesus”. Today kideroos learned Truth 4: Serve Him. Our key verse was I John 1:9. On this track, we studied Peter’s mission in the book of John. We learned “Because Jesus forgives me, I can still serve Him”. What a wonderful truth!

The kids have learned all of the songs so well and are having a great time singing them. Everyone has been busy enjoying the week’s events! Our mission’s challenge was through the roof today as Dollar Dundee made another appearance. Tomorrow we meet one of our missionaries!!

It has been a blessing getting to know all of your kideroos this week. We are so glad to be able to share Jesus Christ with them and the Truths He has in the Bible for all of us!

Wednesday, August 5: Well, here we are smack in the middle of our Boomerang Express week and it has been exciting!!! We have been riding the rails down under exploring God’s truth. Kideroos studied our 3rd Truth today: Confess Him. Trekking through the book of Luke we learned “because Jesus died for me, I can confess Him as my Savior”. Our key verse for today was Romans 6:23.

One of this week’s highlights for the preschoolers has been taking rides aboard our very own Boomerang Express train. Our puppets have been entertaining all age groups while sharing great missionary adventures with us.

The Mission challenge is going strong and every day the kids look forward to the arrival of Dollar Dundee. He lives down under and brings the boys vs girls challenge to a whole new level! Excitement is high, as we wait to see who will win the challenge tomorrow. We have one more day left of our missionary story and then on Friday we will meet a member of the Bonifas family.

Tuesday, August 4: Day 2 was just as great as the first! Wow, do the kids have a LOT of energy!!! Today your kideroos studied the second track for VBS….”Worship Him”. We trekked through the book of Matthew in the Bible and looked at Peter’s discovery of Jesus as God’s Son. This reinforced the truth that because Jesus IS God’s Son I can worship Him. Our key verse came from John 20:31.

Our Mission’s challenge is still ON and the daily competition between the boys and girls is heating up!! We also continued our exciting missionary story coming from our puppets. The kids are anxious to find out what will happen to our missionaries tomorrow. It is fun to watch them hear stories about the missionaries they are raising support for.

Tomorrow promises to be another adventure filled day aboard Boomerang Express. We look forward to seeing your kideroos as we daily learn “it all comes back to Jesus! Follow! Worship! Live through Him!

Monday, August 3: Hello from down under.  Wow!! Another week of VBS has begun with a bang.  With 316 children in attendance, this church was a hopping place!

The enthusiasm and excitement in the kids are contagious. This year on th Boomerang Express we are learning "It all comes back to Jesus" while we ride the rails to explore the Bible.  We want all of our kideroos to "Follow! Worship! Live through Him!"

1 John 4:9 says, "God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent His One and Only Son into the world so that we might live through Him". Today our little kideroos studied Truth #1: Follow Him. Our story came from John 1:40-42 where we learned because God loves and chooses us, we can follow Him.  What a wonderful truth for our children and us, as adults, to hold on to!!!

Our Music Opera House taught us new songs that are sure to be heard around your home.  Recreation Rock Games on Boomerang Express today were nothing short of sensational! I was almost ready to dive in myself, but then I caught sight of the delicious snacks at the G'Day Cafe and had second thoughts.  Craft crossing was a blast and brought just he right amount of creativity down under.  We are excited to see what the rest of the week will bring.

Today we began the first part of our missionary story. We can't mention them here because they're top secret missionaries (seriously) but some special guests came today to tells us about them. It is wonderful to have the children hear stories about the mission they are raising support for.  They get a chance to see Jesus Christ actively at work in their world!! Be sure to check out the missions insert about this family.

Another fabulous week of VBS has flown by. Every day was packed with fun and adventure...and delicious snacks too!

Vacation Bible School is a fun-filled spiritual adventure for boys and girls that provides concentrated Bible study and encourages real-life application. Days of Vacation Bible School include time of Bible teaching, worship, crafts, music, missions, games and snacks.

This year, the children learned to know, speak, and live God's truth-aloha style. Based on Psalm 86:11, Outrigger Island is more than a tropical paradise. It's the place where kids developed the stability they need to face a world of shifting sands and wavering opinions.

Although we are sad to see the children go, our desire is that they will leave with a solid understanding of the 5 truths they learned this week.

  1. God is Real. Our story came from Exodus where God proves He is not only the one true God but He is Real!
  2. Jesus IS God's Son. We surfed through the book of Luke in the Bible and looked at 3 snapshots of Jesus' childhood from birth - 12 yrs. This reinforced the truth that Jesus IS God's Son and that is worth celebrating!! Our key verse came from Matthew 16:16.
  3. Jesus is the only way. We surfed through Jesus' death, burial and resurrection to explain that Jesus is the only way to become a Christian. Our key verse for today was John 14:6. Ask your children to sing the "A wiki, B wiki C wiki" song to you!
  4. The Bible is God's Word. Our key verse was 2 Timothy 3:16. On this wave, we studied that the basis for truth is found in the Bible. Knowing that the Bible is God's Word, we can believe that what it says is true! What a wonderful truth!
  5. My actions show what I believe. Throughout the week wave riders have practiced the motto: "Know the truth! Speak the Truth! Live the truth!" This final Bible study helps wave riders realize that just knowing something and talking about it is not enough if it does not impact how they live. Our key verse was Luke 10:27.

Our Worship Rally Lagoon taught us new songs that are sure to be heard around your home. Recreation Reef Games on Outrigger Island today were nothing short of sensational! I was almost ready to dive in myself, but then I caught sight of the delicious snacks at the Snack Shack and had second thoughts. The Craft Cabana was a blast and brought just the right amount of creativity to the island. We are excited to see what the rest of the week will bring.

We finished our mission challenge today after a great week of competition. Ms. Penny made her final appearance too! We also met the Dunah's after a week of stories and learned more about ULIVBS Outrigger LogoCAF.
We really learned how amazing our God is in our lives and through the lives of others!

Our goal at Village Bible Church is to be a family of growing believers committed to glorifying God by reaching our world with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you would like more information about Village Bible Church or about knowing Jesus Christ, please feel free to call us anytime: 630-466-7198. Thank you for lending us your children this week on Outrigger Island. We hope to see you next summer!!

In Christ,

VBS Missionary Project: ULICAF

Laurie Pilkington 08/03/2008

dunah_family - Dunah FamilyMeet the Dunah Family! Karney and Lydia with their four children: Kehlay, Kardia, De and Albert. The Dunah's left Liberia 14 years ago and are serving the Lord here in the United States by supporting ULICAF (United Liberia Inland Church Associates and Friends). ULICAF trains men to become Pastors who will bring the Gospel to Liberia.

Click here to hear some of the story of God's faithfullness in the life of the Dunah family.

The United Liberia Inland Church Associates and Friends ("ULICAF") is a Christian organization committed to the Great Commission, with a focus on Africa, and specifically to taking the gospel to Liberia. ULICAF was born out of compassion in late 2000 as an informal organization of indigenous Christians from Liberia for the purpose of providing fellowship and encouragement to refugees resettled in the United States.

Our VBS project is to raise support for ULICAF. Each day at the beginning of VBS there will be two water jugs sitting at the entrance to the sanctuary. One will be labeled BOYS and the other GIRLS. As the children enter they can place their money in the appropriate water jug. Every day the money will be counted and during that days closing we will have an exciting "challenge time" where the winner for the day is announced! A special treat will be given to the winners, either the boys or girls for the day.

Every day the children will be hearing an exciting missionary story about the Dunah's life. We want the children to realize the importance of serving the Lord and the impact He has in our lives! You can find out more about ULICAF by going to www.ulicaf.org
So let the challenge begin!!!!!

To those who prayed for this week, THANK YOU. To the 120+ people who volunteered to make this ministry possible, THANK YOU. To the parents who gave us the opportunity to spend the past five days with you children, THANK YOU! We had a fabulous week. While we're all pretty worn out, we are very grateful for the opportunity to have served God in this way.

Over the course of the week, 337 children joined us for Vacation Bible School. Many learned for the first time what it means to follow Jesus Christ. Quite a few took their first steps of faith. Very cool.

Our theme verse for the week was from Hebrews 12:1-2: "Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith."
