[29] A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. This cry from the cross should cause us to: 1. Realize the certainty of suffering. 2. Remain faithful to our calling to serve God. 3. Renew our commitment to Scripture. 4. Remember the work of Christ that brought salvation. 5. Recognize our own craving for sustenance.
