Men's Small Group: A Man's Guide To Work
Panera - Orchard Road
Windows into Haiti have allowed us to see how sheltered and privileged we are. Hopefully, they have also opened our hearts to being God’s hands and feet - to use our abundance to help those in need. Sometimes God catches our attention with one thing only to use that to open our heart to something else... more...

About this time last year, we realized that 2009 was going to be a difficult year. We reduced our original budget and have scaled back in many areas. We’ve strived to be both wise and prudent. We’ve tried to cut back while continuing to adequately fund the base operations. At the same time... more...

God has placed us into the body of Christ for our own protection and blessing. Just as in every earthly family, it's not always fun. We don't always have warm and fuzzy feelings in the body. There are difficult and unlovely moments as we grow together as a family, but there are also blessings that we will never experience unless we become relational and connected in the body of Christ. more...

God seems to be placing before us an opportunity to strengthen a neighboring church in a unique way. After much prayer and dialog, the elders and members of VBC have agreed to to enter into a trial 'adoption' of Grace Bible Church of Aurora which we believe may be used by God to help both churches impact an increasing number of lives in our communities. Last fall, Grace Bible Church approached us and asked us to consider adopting them into the VBC family – and helping them to reach their own community more effectively. Please be in prayer with us as we walk cautiously into this new opportunity and see how God either affirms or redirects our efforts. more...
Many people see material possessions as a means for acquiring personal happiness and contentment. Like the rich fool of Luke 12, they hoard their possessions in hopes of gaining security or "the easy life." The New Testament's teaching on possessions, however, proves these materialistic views to be not only wrong but also foolish. more...

Join us on Thursday evening, October 16, as we attend a performance of C.S. Lewis' brilliant novel, Screwtape Letters. In this story, Lewis explores the theme of spiritual warfare from a demon's point of view. Beloved by both audiences and critics alike, The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis offers a funny, frightening and provocative theatrical experience that will change the way you think about the influence of demons in your every day life. Set in a strikingly eerie, elegant and austere office in Hell, the play follows an urbane senior devil, Screwtape, who confidently dictates crackling good prose to his secretary, Toadpipe. The mission: To instruct a novice demon, Wormwood, on the fine art of tempting a young Christian away from "the Enemy" (Screwtape's name for God) and bring him safely down to the ravenous "our father below." more...
Decline the invitation to meet with God in The Shack. It is not worth reading for the story and certainly not worth reading for the theology. more...
What exactly does it mean to be a family of growing believers? In 1 Corinthians 12, we read, “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one bodyâ€. As God weaves together the fabric of Village Bible Church, He brings together unique gifts. We are all different and yet are all very important to the full functioning of the body of Christ –the church. Individually we are disconnected parts but united we are a family that God can use to bring glory to Himself in a powerful way. more...
On March 3, 2008, Oprah Winfrey hosted a unique online class in cyberspace that reached 500,000 people in more than 139 countries. The interactive webcast, which featured spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle and his mega-bestseller A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, ended up making headlines as "one of the largest single online events in the history of the Internet." But... this Web class unintentionally creates an occasion of genuine clarity. We face a choice of ultimate importance. We can stand with "the truth" of Tolle-Oprah and a long tradition of mystics who suggest that man is God and that "God" is merely a human creation. Or we can stand with Jesus Christ, who proved that he was "the way, the truth, and the life," and affirm that God is God, and man is God's creation. more...
It is also a place that's filled with more life lessons than you may remember, though. Between battles, brief as those interludes are, there emerge some pretty compelling allegories, both spiritual and cultural. At the fore is the assertion that even in a world devoted to reducing stories of God's faithfulness and miraculous interventions to mere myth, we can make a choice to believe. And that choice will, quite literally, be our salvation. - pluggedinonline.com more...
The Associated Press reports that "Grand Theft Auto IV" sold more than 6 million units in its first week. With sales like that, it’s certainly the big ticket. If you have kids and if you allow them to play video games, chances are good that this is one they may try to persuade you to let them spend the $60 that’s burning a hole in their pocket on. Should you acquiesce? No way. more...

Think fast – what is our purpose as a church? Why has God placed Village Bible Church on Route 47 in Sugar Grove? What is our primary calling through which everything else funnels and through which our “success†is to be measured? The old adage that goes something like this, “If you don’t set a goal, or a mark, you’ll miss it every time,†is true. more...
