This week Dan continued teaching through the Joseph series. The Junior High studied Genesis 49 and 50 and looked at Dealing With Sin In Our Lives. The following are teaching notes from the lesson. Feel free to seek out opportunities to continue discussing and teaching these truths with the students, remembering to seek all wisdom and knowledge from the Word of God by His Holy Spirit.
2 tendencies in how we deal with sin:
-1. Pretend it's not there. Ignore it.
-2.Worry about sin's consequences and feel guilty
As illustrated in chapters 49 and 50...
1. Sin has consequences (seen in Jacob's blessing of his sons)
2. The guilt of sin causes us to live with shame and worry about consequences (Joseph's brothers' response after their father's death)
3. We have access to forgiveness (Joseph forgives brothers, "you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good)

This week Dan taught the next lesson in the Joseph series. The Junior High students learned How to Depend on God in Life's Circumstances as learned by looking at Joseph's life in Genesis 41.
Together the looked at three main points:
1. Remain Faithful (vs 1, Joseph did not despair when he was forgotten, boldness involved in interpreting dream)
2. Recognize your power source (vs. 16, Prov 21:1)
3. Repond with Praise (Joseph naming children at end of chapter 41, also Genesis 50:20)
Overall themes: *God is sovereign despite our circumstances. *Trusting in God in the midst of difficult times. *God's plan for our lives (avoiding the cliche: "God has an amazing plan for your life" but instead pointing to Joseph and what he learned through the naming of his sons).
As always we encourage you to continue discussion of this lesson throughout the week with and among the students. Seeking all wisdom and instruction from the Word of God!

This week Josue continued teaching through the Joseph series. The Junior High learned One (1) Key To Being Faithful While Waiting On The Lord . Together they looked at Genesis 40. The following are teaching notes from the lesson. Feel free to seek out opportunities to continue discussing and teaching these truths with the students, remembering to seek all wisdom and knowledge from the Word of God by His Holy Spirit.
Joseph continued to be faithful in the circumstance that he was in: prison. And his character continued to be tested by God and it developed even while in there. But he was still having to wait on the Lord to fulfill His promise to Joseph.
Every single believer at some point of his/her life will go through this. Everybody has waited, is waiting, or will have to wait on the Lord for something.
• In what situations have you had to wait on the Lord as a family or as individuals?
• How long did you have to wait?
• How did the outcome look like in retrospective?
• Now, on the other side, how is God's master plan for your life enriched through that waiting experience?
• Are you waiting on the Lord right now for something?
• How does that look like?
• What are you doing as you wait? Is your character being tested and molded to be more like Jesus?
• What is the key to being faithful while waiting on the Lord?

10/7/09
This week the Junior High was taught by Russ. He led them through the next portion in the new series "Joseph: Faithfulness in All Circumstances". Together they looked at Genesis 39 and discussed "3 Keys to Overcoming Temptation".
"but he refused" (vs 8) Joseph knew what was wrong and he stuck with that conviction even though Potiphar himself (his boss) was not there to see it. He remained faithful first to the Lord in being moral trustworthy, and then to his earthly boss in being trustworthy also!
It was Potiphar's wife herself who was so persistently coming at Joseph with this temptation. Yet he remained obedient to God. He refused to fall to temptation... again and again!
This can ONLY be accomplished through Christ's strength. Only by obeying and and seeking the Lord's counsel and strength through it all was Joseph able to continually flee from the temptation that Potiphar's wife was continually putting before him.
The following are questions which the Junior Highers discussed during Small Group time. Seek opportunities to continue discussion throughout the week with these students!
1. What are some examples of showing that you are trustworthy to other people?
2. Is it hard sometimes to obey God when the pressure is on?
3. What types of things can you do to avoid/get out of peer pressure?
4. What does it mean to persevere?
5. Are you using your own strength to persevere or are you using God's through Jesus Christ?

This week the Junior High was taught by Josue. He shared the first lesson in the new series, "Joseph:Faithfulness in all circumstances"
This Lesson was called, "Four Principles You Must Apply To Be Faithful in All Circumstances"
The kids studied Scripture passages in Genesis 37 and also Psalm 105 in which their focus was drawn escpecially to verse 19.
Psalm 105:19
"till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true."
The four principles were:
1) Know that God has a plan for your life.
2) Trust That God's timing IS PERFECT!
3) Let God test your character.
4) REST in God's faithfulness.
There were then a series of questions which led the small group discussions after the teaching time. Please look for opportunities to continue to discuss these questions with, and among, the students throughout the week! Remembering always to look to Scripture for all wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
