Missions Events

2012_03_missiontrips - 2012 Mission Trips

While each of the following trips has specific goals unique to each location, they all have one main mission: to glorify God!

We want His glory to be known, and for the people we reach and serve to experience the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. In the process will be raising up short-term mission trip leaders for future mission endeavors, and expanding the broader Kingdom of God. Through prayer, study, equipping, and encouraging one another, these trips will change both those we visit, and ourselves as well.

We will be teaming with Visiting Orphans again this year and returning to Heng Feng, China. This will be our third trip with them to Heng Feng.  Visiting Orphans works to fulfill the biblical mandate given in James 1:27 of "visiting orphans" in their distress. They conduct mission trips to orphanages around the world and work with churches to raise awareness in the hopes of each child experiencing the blessing of having a family through reunification, transitional services and adoption.

For our trip to China, we will work with a government run Social Welfare Institute (SWI) to help bring love and assistance to some of those 20 million children without families.  Our purpose will be to serve and to love children in need.  This will include spending time holding babies and loving them.  It seems like such a small thing, but often the nannies that live with them are responsible to take care of up to seven babies each.  We also have to opportunity to possibly do service projects for the orphanage.

We will also get to explore Beijing for the final two days of our trip before we head back to the USA.

We will be seeing much of God’s beautiful country as we head to Alaska, but what’s even better is the experience of having week devoted to teaching God’s word to young children and pouring out Christ’s love on them.

We start by heading to Anchorage, and then charter several small “puddle-jumpers” to travel the last 170 miles to Port Alsworth, a small town on Lake Clark where there are no roads. Tanalian Bible Camp primarily reaches out to the natives who live in the surrounding villages, again. Nearly all of the students who attend this camp will need to be flown in as part of the outreach.

Our own missionaries, James & Sharon Walsh, have been running Tanalian Bible Camp for over 20 years and we’re excited to head back for our sixth summer to serve the Lord at TBC!

We will work with the Primary Camp this summer, which is the 3rd and 4th grade camp. You have the opportunity to be a counselor, work in the kitchen, or do camp maintenance. It’s a blessing getting to help these children memorize Bible verses, learn outdoor skills, play games, and show them Christ’s love! It’s a cross-cultural experience in our own country!

In the summer of 2010, we sent out our first short term team to partner with our missionaries, Matt and Crystal Kehn, who work with Juna Amagara Ministries (JAM), which means “Saving Life.”  This year we are returning to help serve in Uganda.

On this trip we will have the opportunity to openly share the Gospel—through testimonies and Bible stories—in both primary and secondary schools throughout Uganda, spend time serving in JAM’s orphanages, help at the sewing school, and even visit Matt’s main ministry:  a 6-month Bible school called ABIDE (Amagara Bible Institute of Discipleship & Evangelism).

While the main focus of this trip is evangelism and discipleship, it is also a time to encourage the local ministries and JAM staff last year’s team got to know.  Also, those who sponsor a child through JAM will likely have an opportunity to meet their child.

This trip is a great opportunity to join fellow believers in worship in a different culture and to experience what it means to truly rely on God for His provision.
