WHAT IS AWANA
Awana is part of our Sunday evening Generations ministry which takes place October through April. Feel free to join at any time. Awana is a Bible-centered program for children age 3 years through 6th grade that focuses on learning and memorizing God's Word in a fun atmosphere. Each week, the purpose of Awana is to support parents in providing consistent, positive teaching and training that stresses strong moral and spiritual values. Our clubbers learn about the reality of God and the truth of the Bible.
Parents: God has placed the primary responsibility for discipling children on you so we highly encourage parents who have children in Awana to be involved by serving themselves in this disciple making ministry!
Awana Clubs at VBC include:
Cubbies (3 & 4-year-olds)
Cubbies is fun with a purpose to reach and train kids for Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards, and other activities are part of exciting weekly lessons.
*Cubbies must be 3 years old by Sept. 1, 2009 and be potty trained.
Sparks (Kindergarten - 2nd Grade)
Sparks club combines learning with fun to create an atmosphere of excitement that takes kids deeper in to God's Word while giving unsaved boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the Gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ.
Truth & Training (3rd - 6th Grade)
The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach kids the truth of God's Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today's young people will become tomorrow's church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow ... today.

Entrusted With a Child’s Heart is a biblical study in mothering that will be offered on Sunday evenings this fall! This study will cover a wide range of topics, appropriate for moms of all ages, as they raise their children. As a mom, every day counts with our children and this study unfolds the scriptural principles for establishing God-honoring family life. Entrusted with a Child’s Heart endeavors to walk a steady course with mothers as we discover God’s beautiful design from the Bible. Husbands and wives are encouraged to build upon this foundation as they seek to establish God-honoring family life. This study will be led by Sara Wagner (mom of young children) and Deb Weihrauch (empty nest mother). For more information, click here.
Men’s Fraternity is a series of three one-year-long studies that provide men with an encouraging process that teaches them how to live lives of authentic manhood as modeled by Jesus Christ and directed by the Word of God. Men's Fraternity is designed to help men come together and strengthen each other through weekly sessions that combine biblical teaching and small group interaction. Through this powerful series, men learn to reject passivity, accept responsibility, lead courageously, and expect God's greater reward. This study will be led by Greg Oidtman and focuses on the primary issues that shape a man’s life; explores in depth the biblical concept of manhood; and finally provides practical building blocks for any man to use to construct for himself a nobler, more satisfying manhood. The Apostles' Creed, the oldest and most beautifully succinct summary of Christian beliefs, is also a deeply personal profession of faith. In this class, we will examine the meaning and implications of each phrase of this great creed, providing insight into the basic doctrines that are the bedrock foundation of our faith. Join Tim Badal for a study of these ancient truths that are every bit as relevant and timely for our world today.
The Truth Project: A recent major study revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world - only nine percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview. Because of this, today's believers live very similarly to nonbelievers. We spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy, and we begin to wonder what life's ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as a people and a nation. This study is designed to counter this downward slide within the body of Christ. Are you up for the challenge? Join us as we seek to find God in a world of chaos. For more information, click here.

Senior High Students: Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts-it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

Junior High Girls: This unique study, led by Rachel Eastman, is designed to help young women grow in their Christian walk, offers practical teaching, personal stories, and biblical insight into the issues that mean the most to teenage girls: faith, family, friends, and boys. Each class will help teenage girls to learn to find real answers to real-life problems in the Bible.

Junior High Boys: Most people do not expect you to unerstand what we are going to tell you in this study… And even if you understand, they don’t expect you to care. And even if you care, they don’t expect you to do anything about it. And even if you do something about it, they don’t expect it to last. We do.
